Rome: The capital of Italy
Lazio is an important region in Italy! In this region is Rome, the capital of Italy, where all the main roads that go from north to south in the country pass through. Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Fiumicino is the most important airport in Italy, just as Civitavecchia is the most active port for connections with Sardinia.
On the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea there is intense tourism, mostly local, and is a destination for Roman tourism. The famous and impressive Rome is the most touristic part of the region and the main centre for Catholics, with its endless archaeological, artistic and historical attractions.
Throughout the region we find historical monuments dating back from prehistory to the Middle Ages and many buildings dating back to the Renaissance. When we talk about Roman gastronomy, we mean poor but very tasty cuisine made with simple ingredients. Pasta, meat and vegetables make up famous dishes internationally, such as pasta carbonara and pasta amatriciana. Some dishes are better known nationally, such as Roman saltimbocca and lamb.
Visiting Rome is an almost mandatory destination when it comes to tourism in Italy. Although Venice is in first place as the most visited city, Rome has a lot to offer. The city is divided into two periods, if we can define them that way: Neoclassical Rome and Imperial Rome.
Neoclassical Rome can be admired in People’s Square, Via del Corso, Largo Galdoni, Spain Square, Column Square and Venice Square. While Imperial Rome, from Piazza Venezia we walk along the monument to take the Fori Imperiali Street, where we can also visit the Roman Forum and the Colosseum.
Rome is an incredible city rich in history, visiting it is a unique experience!
